villa terrace decorative arts museum project

Objective: 
· To have individual students or collaborative student teams create a proposal of site-specific artwork(s) to be installed at the Villa Terrace.
· To develop ideas about the place and meaning of the crafts/decorative arts within the context of a domestic space/museum.
· To develop public speaking and presentation skills specifically in regard to expressing formal and conceptual ideas.
· To provide Villa Terrace Museum Curator Martha Monroe material from which to incubate or curate future exhibitions.




Requirements:
· Proposals should include a written description in narrative form of the artworks to be created, where in the Villa Terrace they would be ideally situated, and how they formally and conceptually relate to their proposed location. Not to exceed one 12 point type-written page.
· Proposals should also include a drawing or illustration of the proposed work, as well as a map indicating the exact location of the pieces installation within the Villa Terrace.
· A sample should be included with the proposal. The sample could be a fully realized object representative of the work proposed, or it could be a three-dimensional sketch of the proposed work. If it is a sketch, please also include an additional sample of the specific materials and workmanship intended for the proposed piece.

Blog post due dates: 
Friday, March 5 - initial thoughts due via blog posting
Friday March 19 - more specific conceptual development/sharing of research due via blog posting
Friday, April 9 - final proposal presentation date  @ the Villa Terrace (group critique)
Friday, May 21 - final proposal documentation due (research, scans of drawings, images of samples, etc.) via blog posting
